This game is great. If your a fan of the NHL '94 (One of the greatest hockey games of all time) this pays homage to it with a '94 anniversary mode. The same look, feel and graphics from the masterpiece. As for the NHL 14 part it has a great set-up for every player. For example: at the very start of the game it asks your preference of game play. You can have it run as a huge wide open game with big hits and easy to shoot shots. You can have a good balance of simulation and assistance or you can have a hardcore simulation. My son (10) likes to just fly around, big hits, huge shots and fights so the wide open style makes it so fun he can't put it down. I'm a middle of the road guy so I can use the stick control and still have a faster pace game. The control options are great. You can use '94 controls BUT they now include a drop the gloves button. It is a huge benefit and welcomed addition to the very simple controls making it very easy to pick up and play for beginners or gamer's who want to just play very simple controls. The game still plays and acts the same as far as AI and difficulty but is more accessible. The hybrid control set up is a good mix of a easier version of the ultra realistic controls. Graphics as always are top notch. Skating feels a little more realistic than previous editions. If you love hockey this is a great title and is accessible to all gamer levels. The online features are robust ranging from a fantasy hockey GM style to head to head or co-op games, seasons and tournaments.This title shows how far we've come in 20 years yet the core love of a great NHL title remains the same. And how great of an evolution that brings newer gamer's and well as us old folks who grew up on the undisputed king of hockey games good old NHL '94 the ability to play the game we love no matter what our controller or experience skill set is.
