I rarely write reviews, but I had to because I came to buy another one of these (after 6 years of GREAT use) and I see people slandering this AMAZING hardrive.I am a content creator (vlogger) on Facebook and YouTube and thus make a lot of videos, store and access a lot of files.I travel a lot. Internationally, and I live full time in an RV. This hardrive has been to Africa, South America, Central America, Caribbean, and Mexico. It has been in a backpack, international checkout, in my purse, hanging from me laptop, and edit bays cross country.I don't abuse the device, but it has taken some bangs and has been FAITHFUL. FAITH-FULL!! I use this instead of the PC hardrive (because PC hardrives fail. But not this!)I'm buying a new one because the bios drivers on my new PC crashed while I was broadcasting and corrupted this disk. I'm doing data recovery and guess what? The Files are STILL THERE!I need a new drive to transfer my precious files to while I format the old drive to use again) and I'm back here and see ppl speaking ill about this amazing drive?! Not on my watch!I've dropped this, it's banged against the sides of tables at coffee shops. It has fallen (and held tight to the USB cord without damaging my computer, or shorting, or weakening in any way! ). I've lost files before with other drives. I know how fragile they can be. That's why I'm writing this review, to advise anyone who may be wondering what to get and you don't know who is a complainer or who is too easily impressed. You can choose who you want to listen to, however, I am telling you, I BROADCAST LIVE STREAMS around the WORLD with this hardrive, it accesses the files without any lag or delay, and it stands up to international travel, drops, and bangs. That is MY WORD!I don't know these other commenters (or whether they work for the competition) but I know ME! (I'm a public figure). And I am telling you, this hardrive is LEGIT! This is the drive I trust my work videos and family photos on.Boom! After intensive troubleshooting, I finally have a hard drive that maintains a connection to a PC.Silicon Power Armor A85 IP68 Shockproof 5TB Waterproof USB-C external hard drive will randomly de-mount and re-mount, making for an absurd computing experience. This can only be fixed by adjusting settings in the device manager (see attached pictures) to disable power saving.Once this was fixed, I had a generally good 5TB hardware (well, actually 4.54TB... you know how they all fib.)La compré para respaldar mi MacBook Pro, la verdad que si tuve que formatear, porque de otra forma no puedes usarla. Te recomiendo que si estás en la misma situación veas tutoriales de YouTube para esto. The silicon power drive is rugged and easy to use. Less than 4 minutes after I retrieved it from my mailbox I was running the backup I have not yet been able to complete.I have 3 Seagate drives, which have been easy to use as back-up drives, but when I suffered a network attack last year and my hard drive was corrupted, I was unable to restore because Seagate uses it's own operating system which was not available on my corrupted drive. so even with 3, yes 3! full back-ups, I lost all my data.I have a huge (3TB) multi-platform drive from Seagate which I have not been able to use because the software which makes it usable with windows is on the corrupted drive. I have a freeagent drive which had been my back up, but it is near full and I have not yet given up on retrieving my data which is not corrupted, just needs Seagate software to access. Long story sort, despite having several drives I have not been able to do a full backup since setting up my machine. I knew I needed another drive and it was nt going to be from seagate. This looked like a solid choice, had good reviews and so I decided to give it a try.Unlike seagate, Silicon power uses the native software: so far so good ;) all it took for me to start my back up was to remove the usb cable from where it is stored on the drive, plug it in and launch windows back-up. Despite doing a full back up of a large drive with plenty of data, pictures, music... In 15 minutes I was done, thanks to the availability of usb3.While I have not yet dropped it of a cliff, the drive military grade protection was tested a bit before I even opened it. My mail lady left it out in pouring rain. In fact, one of the reasons that I bought this drive was its' water resistance, along with other characteristics which bring it to military standards (shock-proof, solid construction) It does not seem to have been adversely effected by the weather and so far is performing just fine.I may be sorry I set this up as my back up drive as it really is a very portable size, and the construction makes it perfect for travel. However I ultimately wind up using it, so far it seems like it was a good choice: solid, compact, resistant to the elements and more, reasonably priced and easy to use. I'd buy another one, and I very well may.I purchased the SP 1TB Portable HD because in all my research for an external hard drive it was the highest storage/ most cost-effective/ with best reviews I could find. I am not a tech wiz so I didn't need anything fancy (e.g., SSD) - just something reliable to get the job done. This is an "in-progress" review, because I just got it and only time will tell if it lasts without issue. But I was initially disappointed as this unit does not come with a manual or any instructions. From the amazon product description I discover that I needed to download the SP Widget software from the SP website. This was frustrating in that my mac wouldn't let my unzip the files and I had to figure that out (not SP's fault, but a frustration in this process). Finally, upon opening SP Widget I found a manual for use of the Armor A60 with a mac - in English (their website does not have an english manual for the software for use with mac - I emailed customer service about this and they confirmed that no english manual exists... which actually was confusing since then I did find an english manual as part of the software, from which I could download it...). That being said, the graphics on the manual show what I assume to be a different version of the software - it looks different from the software I downloaded, though with similarities. Currently I am looking into reformatting this drive - it came as NTFS for Windows, so I need it to be formatted for use with Mac... again, I am not tech savvy... I got this drive because it said it was compatible with mac but I was not aware I'd need to reformat it. Should I figure out how to reformat and the drive stands the test of time in terms of reliability I would up the stars in my review, but as of right now it feels like the cheaper price has been offset by work put in - from this non-tech savvy customer, I was hoping for something a little more straightforward! Coming to the product,Pros.1. @7200 rpm it is fastest in its segment, with WD elements, Toshiba and all others at 4600 rpm, the product stands out of its competition.2. The product is stylish and not just any black box.3. Also not to mention its Rugged qualities, it is splash proof, drop proof, scratch proof, and features most others don't have. (Shockproof - Drop protection meets US Military (MIL-STD-810G) Standards) (Water-Resistant - IPX4 Splash Resistant from all angles for at least 5 minute)4. The transfer rate on USB 2.0 is around 14 Mbps and SuperSpeed USB 3.0 - High transferring rate up to 5Gb/sec.Cons.1. The design has a bit of flaw, the rubber lock required to stick the USB cable as shown in the image is attached to a soft rubber coat on Hard Drive, so one can easily lose them because of it can come out easily.2. You don't get a carry bag with it, which some manufacturers provide, but as I say you can't complain about this at this price.3. It is a bit larger than other most other hard drives of this segment.Recently bouhght two no-name and one micro usb drive, all of which were garbage. Went back to what I know works and have no no problems with the Silicon Power. This is the third one I've bought and I use them all to load movies for friends and family. Consistent and reliable and works great with PS4.Product was defective right from the box. It would just stop while copying. Just poor quality. An update. I ordered a second Silicon Power to replace the defective one. It failed within 1 hour after starting to use it. It make clicking and squeaking sounds and quit. It did this several times. No more Silicon Power hard drives for me.
