This review is for the Switch version.Super-Pets the movie was fun and enjoyable. Super-Pets the game is not. It is an uninspired and disappointing heap of steaming garbage, made solely to cash in on the movie's popularity. It doesn't even remotely follow the movie's storyline, and it squanders the awesome DC source IP. It is at best a downloadable mobile app in terms of playability and quality. My in-laws bought this for our 6 year old's birthday. Not being gamers, they didn't know any better. The levels are intensely repetitive and boring, with the only variation being more bone checkpoints to go through as the levels progress. So far we've completed 6 levels of the map (city). All of them involve flying Krypto or Ace over a bland city-scape, blasting waves of enemy drone craft. Strangely, when you collect the Superman or Batman symbol, your pet runs along the street for a short segment. It's a timed button game. Push the correct direction and the pet rams headlong into a robot. There's maybe 4 or 5 enemy types: stationary robots perched on buildings, flying drones that shoot back, flying kamikaze drones. The levels are railed (think Starfox), so there's no autonomy to fly around on your own. The levels are hard, even for a seasoned gamer. It's hard to avoid the enemy bullets and building tops/water towers, and hard to shoot enemies near the edge of the screen. Adding to the frustration is loading time between levels, checkpoint restarts, or menu changes. And oddly, simply pushing the A button doesn't confirm selection. You have to hold the button for a few second and wait for the bar to fill. WHAT?Please avoid this shovelware and not reward lazy game studios. Read the reviews for yourself. It's way too hard for a 6-7 year old and you will likely need to help your child through the levels. You don't get the other Super Pets to begin with (only Chip) -- the rest must be unlocked.
