3rd update - coming soon2nd update: now suddenly my data showed up on drive so I quickly transferred it to a drive im more confident in, and I will be checking speeds, use-time, & specs & also looking physically to verify manufacturer before I decide whether Ill be sending it back or not...1st update: AFTER MOVING JUST 50GB TO THIS 14TB 7200RPM FANTOM DRIVE, THEN CHECKING TO ENSURE THAT THE FILES HAD TRANSERRED & FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, AS SOON AS i DELETED THE FILES ON SOURCE DRIVE TO MAKE SPACE, 100% OF THE 5OGB DATA SUDDENLY VANISHED FROM THE NEW FANTOM DRIVE SO NOW IM NEVER BUYING FANTOM AGAIN AS LONG AS I LIVE PLUS I FOUNDOUT FANTOM QUIETLY REDUCED ITS WARRANTY FROM 3 YRS TO 1 SO BUYERS BEWARE DONT BUY THIS CRAPPY DRIVE OR YOULL PROBABLY BE SORRY NOW IM GOING TO HAVE TO MAKE A PROJECT OUT OF ATTMPTING DATA RECOVERY ON THE FAILED FANTOM DRIVE. IF I RECALL CORRECTLY IT MIGHT NOT EVEN MOUNT BUT IF IT DOES MOUNT NO FILES SHOW UP)Original Review:I just got a 14tb and its super loud making me worry if its ok - so I compared it to my 8tb 7200rpm Fantom (same exact enclosure but 8tb drive) and sure enough it is waaaay quieter than the 14tb but then after more screwing around I also noted that if you add additional padding below the 14tb drive then it is almost as quiet as the 8tb is, so while Im definitely still feeling paranoid that the new drive could have an issue & result in data loss & mechanical failure, I also think that the increased weight of the larger drive meant that it should have recieved additional padding/dampening where the stand and table meet, and or beefier better-padded feet on bottom of stand, and maybe even some dampening where the stand and the drive mate. As it stands, it seems that even a trifold napkin underneath will make this drive quiet enough to use as long as its not too close to you. Basically, the weight of the higher cap drive seems to be causing the stand to depress the feet at which point the plastic stand comes in constant full contact with its resting surface & causes a substantial contant loud hum to to the resulting micro-vibration...also the surface effects the hum as if its not a granite or other non-vibratable minimal resonance surface it will be louder & then even louder yet if its sitting on a somewhat hollow or thinner surface such as a wooden shelf. That said, my 8tb FantomDrive doesnt hum at all on ANY surface. To properly accomodate the added weight of these higher cap drives FD needs to invest a tad more in giving adequate dampening to the otherwise identical-for-all-sizes stands.Great amount of storage, quiet operation, speedy copying speeds. Like having an on/off switch. Very compact and the shell has a sturdy construction.I bought this for my Xbox One to store some additional games. Aside from looking like a boss hard drive, it's also the first result when you search for "7200rpm external hard drive". I imagine that's why you see so many reviews from fellow Xbox One owners. Anyway, my Xbox One's internal storage was 92% filled up so it was time to upgrade.Pros1. The thing feels really solid. The actual external closure is made out of metal while the stand is made out of plastic. The connections in the back, the power switch, and all of it feels like a complete and sturdy package. I imagine it'll last for a long time if I treat it right (assuming the drive isn't a dud, which happens from time to time). It looks awesome sitting next to my xbox one.2. 2TB as advertised and so far it's taken all the games I own (about 12, of varying sizes) with about 75% of its capacity left to play with. Transfers have been (relatively) quick and painless. The formatting process on the Xbox One was also quick and painless.3. The drive turns off when the console turns off. Woot!4. The 7200rpm vs 5400rpm debate is long and tedious. I will say this. On an old 3TB 5400rpm drive, I got exactly ONE bit of stutter while playing a game on NHL 16. With the 7200rpm, I got no stutters on that game. So even if the benefits are minuscule, sometimes that's enough to even out the rough edges. Glad I went 7200rpm.5. Unless I update and say that the drive failed, assume the drive continues to live :)Cons1. I wish the USB 3.0 cable were a bit longer. Kind of limits my placement of this device. I may have to buy a slightly longer one if my current placement doesn't work out.2. A mode to turn the blue light off would've been nice. It is kind of harsh. Some things of note:1. This really is just a 7200rpm hard drive wrapped up in a really cool, all metal enclosure. By that I mean (I'm like 95% certain) that there's no difference between this and a 7200rpm drive you buy for your desktop computer. In reality, you could probably pick up a 7200rpm drive, buy an enclosure, and create something like this yourself if you're tech-savvy DIY type. I'm tech savvy, but I'm notoriously bad at DIY which is why I got this one.2. Because it is pretty much a standard, desktop-grade 7200rpm hard drive, the snicks and wizzes that people are hearing are actually totally normal. That's what desktop HDDs sound like. Some may think it's too loud or worrisome, I can tell you it's not. That's what my computer hard drive sounds like and it's still ringing after 5 years.Overall, I'm currently super happy about my purchase. It's working very well and my games play extremely well off of it. Don't listen to the debates, there's really not much of a real-world difference between 5400rpm and 7200rpm, but if you're like me and you want to go that "little, itty bitty" extra mile with your Xbox One, this is a good drive to do it with. Just point the light the other way so it burns holes in your walls instead of your retinas! :DStorage space is great. But it makes alot of noise compared to my Seagate. Also mine gives issues if you don't manually turn it off each time you power down the pc.I'm a professional musician, and got this drive to hold all my software virtual instrument libraries I use in Logic with Komplete Kontrol. OK, it's admittedly not as good for this purpose as if you had a solid state drive, I'll give you that, to be fair, but don't knock it! This is perfect for the job. And, if you're not a musician, don't fret. This drive still may be just what you need. Remember, the drive isn't just for music creation. That's what I use it for, but it's a standard USB external drive. Beware, if you want something portable to throw in a laptop bag, this isn't the drive you want to get. This drive isn't bus powered. It does take an electrical power cord as well. Aside that though, it's pretty good. The only other thing I'd say as a slight downfall is, the drive due to its speed of the 7200RPM is slightly noisy. I mean ok, It doesn't sound like a military tomcat getting ready to take off, God forbid, but you definitely will hear it.So far it’s okay but I know I can find better.I just want to help out the average joe like myself who had trouble finding a compatible EHD to work with their BELL 6131 receiver . This one has worked well so far (2-3 weeks) and formatted in about 20 minutes . All the necessary specs that BELL 6131 requires are met inside the box . DC power , 7200 rpm , no sleep mode etc...The one thing I cannot comment on is its long term use since I've just used it for 3 or so weeks to replace a western digital unit that gave me 8 problem free years until it died during a power outage .I bought the 1 tb size that give you 3oo HD hours ....I use Fantom USB drives for backup of a SMB bunch of servers for numerous years. These drives run 24/24 and they last at least 5 years. I have two that are 9 and 10 years old and run without any problem. But I bought a replacement Fantom drive last year that last less than a year. It was a 4TB External Hard Drive - USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1 Silver Aluminum - GFORCE 3 Serie. The problem is that the data got corrupted several times. I finally found the cause of the problem: the internal temperature of the drive is well above 50 degrees Celcius. That is way too hot.All my other Fantom drive were 3TB or less and their temperature range from 39 to 47 C. Do these 4TB drives need forced ventilation? Looking now for a replacement, I am not certain if Fantom drives will make it to the contender list. Not normal that after only 1 and a half years this device no longer works (the device does not turn on anymore). This support is supposed to give us peace of mind by keeping our data safe (not making us lose it). It's fine to offer a one-year warranty, it's not normal to fail after only 1 and a half years (unless it's of poor quality)‐-------------------------------Pas normal qu'après seulement 1 ans et demi que cet appareil ne fonctionne plus (l'appareil ne s'allume plus).Ce support est supposé nous garder l'esprit tranquille en gardant nos données en sécurité (non pas nous les faire perdre).C'est bien beau offrir une garantie d'un an c'est pas normal de faire défaut après seulement 1 ans et demi (à moins d'être de mauvaise qualité)I ordered this for gaming. I have a 8TB Seagate one connected to my 'Xbox One X', I recently subscribed to 'Game Pass' for that $1 during E3 - I had 6.9TB before I subscribed but, after I download *EVERY* game available I went down to 1.9TB.After hearing about 'PS5' and 'Xbox Scarlett(?)' being "average" 400GB per game, that would be 21 games "only" able to be stored on my old 8TB, compared to 36(a big deal to me). This drive runs very loud(like those old Connecting To The Internet Sounds but, without the squeaky noise), this is not a big deal to me AT ALL to me. This HDD is at 1?.?TB, I still have 30 games downloading - remember 'Game Pass' also has 'Xbox 360' Games in it, so some games are only 1GB or 7GB, or even under 1GB!The 'Fantom Drives' 14TB does what I purchased it to do. As for an increase in Loading Speeds I have noticed a little boost in 'Forza 7' loading from Track to Main Menu. I go back to Christmas 198?(NES\Super Mario Bros.) to 2019/beyond, in between I have owned EVERY system with the exclusion of ALL 'SEGA' 's systems and the 'N64'; MEANING Load Times mean *NOTHING* to me - downloading the game DOES. 'Forza 7' took FOREVER to download(think Updating any game on PS4 followed by the Installation!). I love having ??? games on my HDD so I can play a Sports Games quit, start up my Racing Game, then play another game on 'Game Pass' all with 12 button pushes!Highly Recommended!Edit 8/20/19: 212 Games on this HDD and STILL 9.8TB left! Finished downloading ALL 'Game Pass' Games that I want, September will add even more.'Forza 7': Menu to Race is a tiny bit faster then, select car and select new Race is a tiny bit faster as well, But, I did notice a difference, though. I would say maybe 2-5 seconds faster, and it doesn't studder in the Main Menu any more!I purchased this EHD to replace our pvr external hard drive. This has outlasted Bell's crappy PVR and satellite equipment. It has done its job quite well and has been plugged in since I purchased it. Where we live we have had frequent power outages (device plugged in to surge protector) and this EHD has performed well. Being a electronic device though some people get duds but in my case no problems with it.
